Summer's End

As I sit here contemplating my summer and the reality that I have to face a new group of 2nd Graders tomorrow morning I have that panic feeling that time is going by too quickly. Every summer I start out with a list of things I want to accomplish, outings I want to take with my family, etc. The list of possibilities seem endless because I will have more time and no work to worry about. Right? And this summer really was a let down since Terry spent the whole time basically working 2 full time jobs. He hasn't had a day off since the 4th of July. I don't have any pictures of him all summer except our 4 days in Sequoia. So instead of feeling bad about things and dwelling on the fact that I know what it feels like to be a single mom, I want to remind myself of the little things I got to do, see and experience during the summer.

1. I got to walk with my walking group M-F, 8:30-10 a.m. Not only did I get to exercise and feel good physically but I got some good conversation as well. The quiet, contained kids is an added bonus.

2. I got to run through the sprinklers and go into a tiny wading pool with the kids many afternoons. And yes the pool is still fun without water.

3. Went to an outdoor symphony and drum circle at Balboa Park and let Ian try out some instruments. Ian thinks he's playing the bass.
4. Went to Pump It Up a few times

5. Watched a few T.V shows. I bought these chairs 1 year ago- got the Shreck one for Ian and figured I better buy the princess one for Heidi even though she was 2 months old at the time. Sure enough the day came when the 2 of them started fighting over the Shreck chair and voila, Mommy simply rushes to the garage to get the princess chair. Problem solved.

6. Watched a Fleatwood Mac cover band play. Ian found a little girlfriend and they danced the night away with. Here he is trying to impress her by attempting to get on the stage.
Heidi is trying to snag a few balloons from the clown's stash.
7. Played with my knight in shining armor.
8. Heidi fell in love with brushing her teeth.

9. Went to my Grandma Rice's 80th birthday party in St. George, UT. We stayed in my aunt Patty's time share and I couldn't get my little fish out of the pool. My mom's side of the family minus Terry as usual.
Playing hide and seek under the table.
Heidi sprinkling red rock dirt on herself.

I guess it wasn't as uneventful as I thought now that I spent some time going back and looking at our summer. On a brighter note Terry finishes student teaching in 2 days! Yeah. We get daddy back in our lives. He's applying for the slim job openings but not expecting much. Oh well. I am just thrilled that his 4 years of working on this is over.
